As my 3rd emerging technology I did a podcast using audacity. It was really easy, but my boyfriend did help me a little. Audacity is a program that allows you to record your voice or any other sounds. It can be used to edit sounds or music, mix tracks, noise removal, etc. This program can be used in teaching easily or for anyone. If a student is sick, a teacher could use this program to record a lesson. It can be used for musicians as well. The program is very useful. Simply hitting record and talking does a world of wonders. Yet, adding music changes a recording into something new. I enjoyed the program, plus I love to sing. I could see how fun this could be recording my friend and I who sing constantly! Although the program was great posting it on here was a nightmare! It took me and my boyfriend hours. I do not know if we did something wrong but if there is any other way to do it, I do not recommend using a server. It was really hard. If I had to go through that again just to post it, I would not do it. It was not worth the trouble. My tips would be to explore the program. I am not very good with this part of technology so I did the basics. My other tip is not to use the server as previously said because that was terrible. I thought Audacity was user friendly but posting it was not. Overall, I liked Audacity. My podcast is a recipe, hope you enjoy it! |

RSS Feeds
RSS Feeds are so useful! Everything is right there and it is information that you want. I did 6 feeds for now. College Fashion and College Candy are two of the feeds I used that are similar. They offer a lot more than fashion otherwise I would not be that interested. Both have been known to offer study tips, health tips, ways to deal with stress, music, relationship tips, and more! I will be checking these sites for sure. I think a lot of the information will be useful. I did not expect this from these sites. I am glad it is much more than just talk about clothes. I also added MSNBC because checking up on global news is important. My feed to free technology my teachers has some useful information, it discusses technology like google maps. I expected this from this site and might be checking on it in the future. I also am getting feed from the Journal of American History. This is my teaching source, but I have to look hard for useful teaching information, but there is some good information about history. My feed from positively present helps to live a positive life. I have a tendency to be pessimistic sometimes and this will really help. I will be checking in on this site because it will be very useful for me. Overall, I am glad to have used RSS Feeds, nowI do not have to look up the sites individually, it is a great tool.

2nd Emergent Technology
I was so excited to do this emergent technology since I finally got wireless internet at my house a few weeks ago!! I used Skype, which I was not able to do before because I do not have a webcam on my home computer. Now, I get to use my laptop at home that has a webcam on it. I asked one of my friends if they had Skype and they responded, "What is that?" For people who have never heard of Skype like some of my friends, it allows you to do free video calling, call people for free, and free instant messaging. It is mostly known for its video calling. Video chat can be used in so many ways. I know teachers who have used it to help students after school, and to access other resources, or guest speakers. It can be used to speak to friends who have moved, or are on vacation, or just out of town. I have only used it a few times. I video called my boyfriend and a friend from school. I hope to video call my neighbor who just moved into Japan! It is so much better to see a face and hear a voice at the same time! Skype was a little confusing at first, but with help I understand it a little better. To begin with, I had to find friends, I did this by clicking on the directory and searching their names. Then my friends called me and a screen popped up, so I did not know what to do. You can click accept or decline, then you have to turn on the video. I did not know this at first and was so confused. After this, Skype is quite simple. You can call friends or accept their calls. I have not used regular calling or instant messaging yet, but I plan to in the future. I believe Skype is user-friendly and can be used for several different types of situations like business or just talking to friends. I would suggest skyping with friends before using this in a business setting. Then you can learn more about it and explore it more. Overall, I thought using Skype was a good technological experience and I recommend it to others.

Emerging Technology 1
For my first emerging technology I explored PhotoShow. PhotoShow can be free and you may also pay money to upgrade. Photoshow can make wonderful movies, similar to Powerpoint shows, with pictures. I thought it would be really useful at a graduation or birthday party. It is possible to get the PhotoShow that you make turned into a DVD. That would be really fun to do! It may cost some money. Also, when upgrading, it is possible to add music from ITUNES. It is simple just upload the pictures you want to use and do some tinkering to the text. It is very self-explanatory. I enjoyed using it because it was so easy. Although, I did try to upload my pictures all at once and it took forever! I do not recommend that. It was easier for me to upload them individually. It made the process a lot faster! I liked how I could customize mine with a vacation theme that was provided. Also, I enjoyed the fun "stickers." I used a sun, some stars, and a palm tree! Overall, I was interested in PhotoShow because it allowed me to use some creativity instead of simply uploading photos! Try it out! My PhotoShow is at the bottom of my page with my music and Powerpoint!

Additonal Tips!
I thought I should put some more tips up here for everyone! If you go to design, template designer, and then click on advanced you can change all the colors of everything! I am still working on my font so if it is hard to read let me know! Sometimes I like bright colors a little too much! Gadgets is how I put my pictures in. Hmm, I am very new to this so I hope these extra tips helped. Hopefully you can send some tips my way because I am still exploring.
Introduction!
Hi everyone! My name is Kristen Koon and I am a Social Studies Education major. I am a sophmore in college,so I am not in the blocks yet. I really hate math, which is why I have chosen the path of a Social Studies teacher. Social Studies and English are much more fun than math for me! I currently live at home in Plainfield so I have a bit of a drive to school. I have two sisters who have both graduated from IU. It is my goal to attend IU Bloomington. Yet, I am enjoying the free housing from my parents and the cheaper costs so much here that I might stay. If you look to the side you will see a picture of me with long hair. I am not big on change but recently I made a drastic one! I cut my hair really short, and it was a big step in growing up for me. Well, you can learn some more information about me in my about me section! By the way, I am in a Sociology class and we have to do service learning. Next week I get to go to George Washington Community School and either tutor or help a teacher. Yay! Anyways...making my blog was an interesting experience! I found myself getting angry at my computer but then it got better. It reminds me of making a myspace almost. So my tip would be to go to hotbliggityblog.com and get a cute layout to make your blog unique! Also just explore. I did not know how to add music from itunes so I just got on projectplaylist.com and made a playlist. This website can be frustrating because sometimes it doesn't have the song you want to add. Ah! Well, right now I am still trying to figure out how to add my powerpoint. Hopefully I can get it on here. Oh, and by the way the song that I used for my slogan is first on my playlist! Hope you like it!
